There was a somber mood at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology as students held an interdenominational prayer for students killed in Garissa.
147 students were Massacred by 5 heavily armed Alqaeda
linked Shebabs in the early morning attack that took Kenyan forces 15hours to
deal with.
Officiating the mass, Mmust chaplain, Father Kizito Muchanga
condemned the attack calling it ungodly. He urged the students to live as a
family and not to be divided on religious grounds.
Kizito also called upon religious leaders and those in
governance to stop blame games but come up with ways which will help reduce if
not curb terror attacks in the country.
The university which harbors a population of more than
10,000 students has since beefed up security.
"We assure you that we have put measures in place
to ensure you are secured. We are taking no chances for we know terror is real
in this country. Having been a constituent college of Moi university in the
past, the attack on Garissa University College has a dire ct impact on
us." said the dean of students, Mrs. Bernadette Abwao.
Fear had escalated at the university following a
circulation of a sms claiming that two suspected Alshaababs had been arrested
off Waiyaki way in Nairobi. The duo is believed to have been headed for a
mission in the western region.
Despite a heavy downpour that disrupted the function
leading to a change of venue, 147 red candles were lit outside the library at the
university's fountain.
According to Peace Ambassadors Kenya (Mmust chapter)
chairman the red candles symbolized innocent blood shed during the attack while
white candles peace needed to unite the nation in this trying times.
Outgoing student leader Bill Clinton urged students to
be vigilant and report any suspicious character seen in the vicinity of the
campus.
This comes as churches across the country feared of an
attack during the Easter holiday.
Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta has promised Kenyans
to avenge the attack in a "severest way" as he announced a three day
mourning of the massacred 147 Garissa University College students.
