The group lead by
sports presenter Mkalla Wa Mwambodze also known as Pande la raia, came to the aid
of Mlaleo’s Young Rovers’ player, Omari
Hamisi’s 14, after learning of his
dire situation, when a story of his rotting leg and a huge hospital bill was
highlighted in a local publication
Bahari fm head of radio Wilmot Rex Nzaro handing over the cheque. |
While presenting a
cheque worth Ksh.355, 000, at Sayyid Fatma in Mlaleo, Mkalla said his colleagues
at Bahari Fm were touched by the story highlighted on his sports program Kindumbwendumbwe na Mkalla Wa Mwambodze.
“Omari’s story had a
great impact at my work place and to my fans. We therefore decided to do
something to help him. It is sad to see a talent go to waste yet there are
people who are earning billions from such talents” Said Mkalla
He added that drug
abuse, unemployment and criminal activities will drastically reduce if county
governments invested in nurturing talents and maximizing their economic
potential.
Omari and Her mother
broke down to tears and became short of words as they expressed their gratitude
to the sports presenter, while receiving the Cheque. The cheque will cater for
the hospital bill and medication.
According to the report
published on Mwanaspoti, Omari picked an injury two months ago, during a
practice session.
He however could not afford proper medical attention and his team does not have medical cover for its players. He
was therefore left with no option but taking traditional treatment and pain
killers.
His situation seemed to improve but after a
month of muscle stretching and massage, his situation worsened. His leg began
blistering and rotting rendering traditional treatment useless. This forced his
mother, who is also unemployed and earns a living from selling perfume-commonly known as marashi ya reja reja , to take him to a Doctor for proper
medical attention.
Upon examination he was
found to have a severe tissue damage. The
doctor then recommended amputation. Something the player refused, forcing his
family to seek a second opinion. To the player’s relief,
the second opinion did not recommend amputation however it was something they
could not afford.
According to the
doctor grafting was the only solution to his problem. This is a treatment that
was going to cost over Ksh.200, 000.
Nipashenipashike wishes Omari a quick recovery.
