Unlike dirty politics of buying votes during campaigns, students at Masinde Muliro University Of Science and Technology successfully held a political debate on Monday, March 3,2014.

The debate dubbed "The Big Debate 2014" brought together contestants vying for different seats in the forth coming elections.
During the Debate, which was moderated by students, the contestants were given equal time to sell their manifestos and answering questions from the floor. The positions include 10 SGC seats, comprise of 3 executive seats and 14 congress seats.
Candidates vying for the chairperson position assured
students of equity in service delivery and effectively link students and the
university management. However the candidates who are: Jeremiah Masengeli,
Nyongesa w. Isaac , Bill Clinton, Stephen Mwingirwa and wafula Emmanuel had a
very hard time in answering questions on
how they will deal with negative ethnicity that is deeply rooted in MMUST.
When it came to candidates vying for the post of secretary
general, issues regarding university’s policies took centre stage. The
contestants promised open forums with the management to discuss some of the policies
affecting students.
In regard to MMUSO funds, which have been embezzled for
long, Candidates vying for the post of Director of finance assured students of
accountability and transparency in tendering process.
Nurturing of talents, acquiring better sports facilities and
better hostel services were some of the issues that candidates vying for the
post of director of sports and catering highlighted.
In attendance was Dr. Juda Ndiku, the returning officer, Mr.
Mulongo Onzere who represented the dean of students and MMUST election
commisionares led by John K’atieno the chairperson Mmust electoral commission
(MEC).
