KENYAN MAN IMPRISONED FOR STEALING GUM



What was a normal habit of stealing has now landed a kenyan man a sentence to serve six months imprisonment for stealing six packets of chewing gum from his employer.

Paul Kipyegon Rono was charged that on March 11 this year at Mutai enterprise in Bomet town, he stole the chewing gum which came into has possession by virtue of his employment.
The accused appeared before Bomet senior resident magistrate Ms. Virginia Karanja and was convicted on his own plea of guilty.
The court was told that the employer noticed that the chewing gums were missing and suspected the accused.
On the material date, the court heard the accused with his trouser’s pocket bulging sought permission to answer a call of nature in a nearby toilet but the supervisor decided to follow him behind.
Mr Rono handed the consignment to a butcher and proceeded to the toilet. The butcher gave the items to the supervisor who called the police.
In mitigation, the accused asked the court for leniency while promising to keep off crime.
The magistrate fined him Sh20,000 or in default serves six months imprisonment.
He could not raise the fine and was escorted to Bomet GK prison to commence his jail term.
