In a bid to regain its lost glory as a tourist city, The Mombasa County government has said it will host its premier hospitality supplies show, dubbed Mombasa Hotel Show 2014.
The three day event will
be held at wild waters, Nyali from 13-15 November, this event will offer an
opportunity for the business community in learning more about business trends,
their needs, how to close business deals and increase their client base in the
coast region.
Speaking to journalists,
The County executive of Tourism and Culture Development, Mr.Job Tumbo, said the
tourism hub in the counties has much to offer and his ministry will strive to
work with tourism stakeholders to market new products that enhance the beauty of
coast region as a popular destination.
During a press briefing
Steve Owuor the managing director of Slujan Events said that the exhibition is
aimed at increasing investors’ confidence in the country. This is through
giving local and international product suppliers an edge by providing a
platform for them to engage and interact with the businesses, hotels lodges
that are based in the coastal region.
“We are targeting 50
exhibitors from both local and international markets. Currently 30 exhibitors
have confirmed their participation. This target may be surpasses as as the
hotels, suppliers and service providers continue to show interest in
participation.” said owuor.
Mr. Tumbo added that combined
effort is of essence in rejuvenating the tourism sector, calling upon all
players to actively contribute in efforts to revive the sector.
“The County government
cannot work alone and it requires everyone’s in put to enable Mombasa regain
its lost glory as a tourist city.”
Speaking during the press
briefing, Tourist police Unit commandant, Sichorani Wilberforce assured tourist
that the region was safe. He said they had put measures in place to see that no
criminal incidents takes place during the event.
He said they are increasing
their personnel and are collaborating with other police units in making sure
that there is safety.
